Legend has it that the Cloistered Emperor Kazan visited this temple in 998.
The principal object of worship is a wood carving buddha which is said to be handmade by Shotoku Taishi. The temple has been greatly worshipped by the local people who pray for maritime safety, a large haul, safety of the family or prosperity of business.
